Denise graduated as a pharmacist in New Zealand before being lured to these shores on a 12-month working holiday. She discovered hospital pharmacy as a locum at Dulwich and Kings Hospital in 1985 and then was appointed Priority Care Services pharmacist and her interest in Elderly care and Mental Health Services began. She has worked (and continue to locum) in community pharmacy and has also worked in GP surgeries undertaking medication reviews for the over 75s. She is currently employed as a senior teaching fellow at Bath University, with responsibility for teaching clinical pharmacy subjects (including mental health) at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Her current research interests are medicines management in people with dementia, for which she is currently registered for a PhD. Gill Hawksworth is co-opted as the community pharmacist representative on the committee from 1998. With her track record as a practicising community pharmacist, a special interest in mental health, a CPPE tutor and not forgetting her experience as a council member of the RSPGB, she is proving a very valuable member of the team, with her long experience and interest in mental health issues. Gill was re-elected a member of the Council of RPSGB in May 1999, made Vice President in June 2001 (re-elected June 2002), and was President in 2003-4. She received the College of Pharmacy Practice 2000 annual Schering Award for outstanding contribution to pharmacy practice (Pharm J 2000, 264, 740, photo in Pharm J 2000, 265, 178). In July 2001 her pharmacy won an NHS Champion of the Year award for the good service they provide to the local community (Pharm J 2001, 267, 8) and was awarded the MBE in June 2002. Morag Martin was Principal Pharmacist Clinical Services for the Greater Glasgow Primary Care NHS Trust until she retired early in 2004. Morag graduated from Glasgow University and has had considerable experience of both hospital and community pharmacy. She has been working in psychiatric pharmacy since 1983 and until recently was Principal Pharmacist of both Leverndale and Gartnavel Royal Hospitals. She was currently responsible for developing clinical pharmacy services trustwide and was a member of the Divisional Management Team for Mental Health. Morag's interests lie in substance abuse and drug withdrawal, psychogeriatric pharmacy, education and training and working closely with community pharmacists. She is a member of the UKPPG Bulletin Board, and the European Pharmacists for Psychiatry and Neurology and the Scottish Pharmacists in Mental Health. Having now retired, she is continuing as Treasurer, but during the summer of 2004 won a Cup for the first time in her life, for her local Bowls team. Diane Booth is Chief Pharmacist of West Berkshire Priority Care NHS Trust, based at Fair Mile Hospital in Berkshire. This Trust manages both the mental health and community services for West Berkshire. Diane has been working in mental health since 1993, in posts ranging from clinical pharmacist to pharmacy manager. She has worked in London, York, Hertfordshire and Cambridge in a diverse range of mental health settings. Her current post is a new challenge offering new opportunities as well as the chance to expand her teaching and clinical roles. She teaches on the Square's Postgraduate Clinical Diploma and MSc, and ran the Anglia and Oxford Psychiatric Pharmacists Group. Diane did her degree at Leicester Polytechnic (where Dave Branford was a lecturer at the time). She was co-opted back on to the committee in January 2003 to liaise with the emerging pharmacy technicians network. |

Fiona Couper was appointed Chief Pharmacist for the Cheshire & Wirral Partnership NHS Trust in April 2003. She graduated from Liverpool John Moores University in 1994 and did her pre-registration year at Wirral Hospitals NHS Trust, staying on as a junior pharmacist for 2 years during which time she completed her post-graduate Diploma and MSC in Clinical Pharmacy. Her MSc thesis was in Schizophrenia and educating patients about their antipsychotic treatment, looking at compliance with treatment and patients perceptions of side effects of their medication. It was during her mental health rotation under the supervision of John Donoghue that she became interested in mental health and hence the MSc thesis in the area. She left Wirral Hospitals in July 1997 to take up a Practice pharmacist/deputy pharmaceutical adviser post with Sefton Health Authority back in Liverpool, but missed the patient contact. She left the post in April 1998 and whilst between jobs worked as a community pharmacist locum manager for a small independent chain on the Wirral. She then took up her present job as Directorate Pharmacist for Mental Health at Clatterbridge Hospital, part of Wirral Hospital NHS Trust, which is currently in the process of merging with 3 other sites to form the Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Trust. Outside of work her interests are wine (having completed and passed the intermediate certificate of the Wine and Spirits Guild Education Trust), is secretary of the Wirral branch of the RPSGB and enjoys circuit training, aerobics, gym, foreign travel and socialising. |

Celia Feetam is a freelance Psychiatric Pharmacist. Before she became self-employed in 1985, Celia worked for ten years as Principal Pharmacist in Psychiatry for South Birmingham Health Authority at Rubery Hill Hospital. She now provides a pharmacy service to the Woodbourne Priory Hospital, one of eight private acute psychiatric units belonging to the Priory Group. She is course tutor for the Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma in Psychiatric Pharmacy at Aston University. She was UKPPG Treasurer from 1995 to 2000, Vice Chairman (1999-2001), conference organiser, and a whole load of other things too. As a result she was awarded the Chairman's award in 2001 for a lifetime achievement in psychiatry, completed two years as Chairman in October 2003 and retired from the committee in October 2004, to stand for the CMHP Board. In her spare time, she acts as an occasional consultant in psychiatric pharmacy to the Pharmaceutical Industry, the Private Sector and the NHS. She also does voluntary work for a psychiatric hospital in Romania. Celia is interested in all aspects of psychiatry but particularly in eating disorders, alcohol and substance misuse, anxiety and resistant depression. Lynn Haygarth is now Chief Pharmacist for South West Yorkshire Mental Health Trust, a post she gained in December 2002. She has considerable experience of both community and hospital pharmacy and thus has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the problems that each of these branches of the profession have to deal with. As chairman of the UKPPG in 1993/95 she collaborated in the preparation and publishing of the Statement on Community Care and feels strongly that it is important that the Group continues to promote the fundamental philosophy of this statement. In November 1999 she was awarded a Master of Education in clinical pharmacy teaching (Pharm J 2000, 264, 739). Her research project investigated the effects of the Postgraduate Diploma in Psychiatric Pharmacy on Pharmacist activities. A prominent member of the UKPPG over many years, Lynn has been secretary, Vice Chairman, Chairman and for many years the educational course organiser. Her final responsibility was as editor of the UKPPG Bulletin. In 2000 she became the second recipient of the Chairman's Award for Lifelong achievement in psychiatric pharmacy. Siobhan was elected to the committee in October 2000. Despite having a strong Glasgow accent she had only ever worked in London until 2002. She was until January 2002 Principal Pharmacist (mental health services) for Chelsea & Westminster Hospital. She also led the clinical pharmacy services provided to Brent, Kensington, Chelsea & Westminster Mental Health Trust by a variety of acute Trusts. As Chelsea & Westminster Hospital also has a large HIV service one of her main interests were prescribing psychotropic medication for HIV infected individuals and clinical pharmacy services to liaison psychiatry. She moved to Ayrshire in 2002. |

Alan is currently involved in a range of projects and initiatives, including antipsychotic guidelines and shared care, antidepressant guidelines, information resources for patients, a client-led smoking cessation project and initiatives around nurse prescribing. Alan has a particular interest in education and training and was a Regional Tutor for the De Montfort MSc/Diploma in Psychiatric Pharmacy. He retired as Secretary in 2001. |

She has co-authored a book entitled 'Psychiatric Intensive Care' Eds Beer, Pereira & Paton, Published by Greenwich Medical Media ISBN 1 900151 87 1, details at Greenwich medical or on the National Association of Psychiatric Intensive Care Units site. She was a member of the UKPPG working party on Clinical Governance in 1999. Late in 1999 she was seconded to become manager of a range of clinical services in Oxleas Trust. |

She formerly worked as Lecturer in Clinical Pharmaceutics, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nottingham University and then at Liverpool University. She has now moved to Manchester University and is back at work collecting data in a variety of trials. |

Mary works as a freelance Pharmacy Consultant in Community Pharmacy. She worked in a variety of community and hospital settings until 1987 when she went to work at the National Pharmaceutical Association as head of Information. She stayed there for eight years becoming Professional and Information Services Manager. In this post she investigated ways in which to help community pharmacists develop their professional practice. According to the Pharmaceutical Journal (1999, 263, 894) she was community pharmacy liaison officer for UKPPG from 1995-1998 and stood down from the committee in June 1998 due to work and family pressures. She is chairman of the Hospice and Palliative Care Pharmacists Association, on the board of the Ian Rennie Hospice at Home (Pharm J 1999, 263, 838) and elected a fellow of the RPSGB in December 1999. |
