Annual undergraduate pharmacy student bursary award
UKPPG has launched this new award and is seeking applicants for this year. The bursary award is for projects undertaken in mental health by undergraduate pharmacy students. The award will include attendance at the group’s Annual Conference, with all accommodation and travel included plus 2-years membership of the group. The award will be made to a winner and runner up, or up to two members of a joint application.
Criteria
The project must have been undertaken during the applicant’s undergraduate course: it is expected, but need not necessarily be, as part of their final year project (or equivalent for sandwich courses) but must not have been part of the pre-registration training. The project can be undertaken in any sector of pharmacy, including community, hospital, primary care, academia and industry.
The project must be wholly or mainly about a subject related to the practice of mental health pharmacy. It is anticipated that most projects undertaken by undergraduate pharmacy students will be as part of the audit cycle, or a literature search as part of service development or evaluation, although applications need not be limited to such projects.
The work must have been undertaken wholly by the applicants and an outline of contribution from student colleagues and the name of the supervisor should be included.
The applicant must have undertaken the project during in the current academic year.
The applicant must be willing to submit their project as a poster at the UKPPG International Psychiatric Pharmacy Conference in October.
Process of application
A brief project report: the project must be written up as a brief report describing the work:
- The first page of the report should include the title and author(s) details, including the name of the supervisor and the School of Pharmacy.
For the sake of anonymity in the marking process, the title and text should exclude any identifying names or places - An abstract of no more than 350words should be included. An abstract normally includes: Aims and Objectives; background; Methodology; Results; Discussion and Conclusion.
- The report should be no more than 1,500 words long excluding tables and references. A word count should be included
- The report must be typed in at least 12 point, double-spaced on A4 paper with 1.5 inch margins, have numbered pages, and be bound. Tables, figures and references (Vancouver style) should be on separate pages at the end
- Since the report will act as the only means of assessing the project, the report should be self-contained and self-explanatory
- Four printed copies of the written project report must be submitted, three of which must be anonomised.
A covering letter should be provided by the applicant that states:- The full title of the project
- The presenting applicant's full name and correspondence address (that should be valid after 1st August)
- The applicant’s telephone, mobile telephone number and e-mail address (all valid after 1st August)
- The address of the applicant's university
- The name and address of the supervisor(s) for the project
- The address(es) of the establishment(s) where the project was undertaken (where the data was collected)
- A statement confirming that the applicant(s) undertook the work themselves without assistance other than that of a supervisor. If this is a project with greater than one student involved the names of the other students and a breakdown of responsibilities for the project should be included. Names of all students and the supervisor should appear on the report, with the presenting author(s) listed first and in bold.
- A statement acknowledging that the applicant is willing to present their project as a poster at the UKPPG Annual Psychiatric Pharmacy Conference
Applications should be submitted to the address at the end of this invitation by 30th June. If you require acknowledgement of the receipt of your application, please include your e-mail address; applications can only be acknowledged by e-mail.
