United Kingdom
Psychiatric Pharmacy Group
Pre-registration pharmacist bursary award

The UKPPG successfully launched this award in 2002 and is now seeking applicants for 2008. The bursary award is for projects undertaken in mental health by pre-registration pharmacists. The award will include attendance at the group's annual conference, held each autumn, with all accommodation and (up to £200) travel included and 2 years membership of the group. The award will be made to a winner and runner up.
Criteria

The project must have been undertaken during the applicant’s pre-registration training: this may either be as part of an undergraduate sandwich course or as part of post-graduate training. The project can be undertaken in any field of pharmacy, including community, hospital, academia and industry. The project must be wholly or mainly about a subject related to the practice of mental health pharmacy. It is anticipated that most projects undertaken by pre-registration pharmacists will be as part of an audit cycle, a literature search and evaluation as part of service development or a service evaluation, although applications need not be limited to such projects. The work must have been undertaken wholly by the applicant; the project may have been supervised. The applicant must have undertaken their pre-registration training in the years 2003-2006.The applicant must be willing to submit their project as a poster at the UKPPG International Psychiatric Pharmacy Conference, 6th – 8th October 2006 at Wokefield Park, Reading.

Process of application

·        The first page of the report should include the title and author(s) details.

·        All subsequent pages must repeat the title as a header

·        All subsequent pages must not mention the author’s name ·        For the sake of anonymity in the marking process, the title and text should exclude any identifying names or places

·        The report should be no more than 1,500 words long excluding tables and references. A word count should be included

·        The report must be typed in at least 12 point, double-spaced on A4 paper with 1.5 inch margins, have numbered pages, and be bound. Tables, figures and references (Vancouver style) should be on separate pages at the end

·        Since the report will act as the only means of assessing the project, the report should be self-contained and self-explanatory

·        Four printed copies of the written project report must be submitted.

A covering letter should be provided by the applicant that states:

·        The applicant's full name and correspondence address (should be valid after 1st August that year )
